Create this quick and easy festive bunting, to transform any space for a zoom party or a child’s room. By changing the prints and patterns of your materials, you can customize the bunting for any occasion. It is a great project to use up some of your scraps! The directions will give you a strip of bunting that is approximately 2.7m. If you need it to be longer or shorter simply adjust accordingly.
Requirements:
- Fabric for large triangles 4-6 Fat quarters (assorted colours)
- Fabric for small triangles 3-4 Fat quarters (assorted colours)
- 2.7 meters of twill tape or bias binding
- 3 x spools of overlocking thread
- Coordinating sewing machine thread
- Overlocker
- Sewing machine
- Pattern templates
- Rotary cutter, mat and ruler
- Paper Scissors
Cutting:
- Cut 9 x large triangles using the large triangle template.
- Cut 9 x small triangles using the small triangle template
Construction:
- Thread your overlocker, setting up for a three-thread overlock (refer to your overlocker manual). Overlock the edges of the large and small triangles
- Pair and layer one small triangle on top of one large triangle and sew along the flat edge with a ¼” seam allowance. Repeat until you have used up all of your triangles
- Line up the triangles along the twill tape leaving a 2-5cm gap (Feel free to adjust the gap, based on your own preference). Pin them in place. If using Bias binding, sandwich the top of the triangles in between the binding.
- Sew along the twill tape or bias binding with a ¼” seam allowance to secure the triangles. Leave about 25cm of twill tape or bias binding on either side of the triangles for tying the bunting up. Overlock the edges of the tape or binding to finish it off.
